Blast Season Ends with 10-8 OT Loss to La RaZa

03/29/2010 10:49 AM - The Monterrey La RaZa defeated the Baltimore Blast, 10-8 in overtime, in Game Two of the 2010 MISL Semifinals Monday night to advance to play the Milwaukee Wave in Sunday's Championship Game. Victor Quiroz scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of overtime after the Blast battled back from an 8-4 deficit to force the extra play. The teams played Game One Friday night in Monterrey and La RaZa earned a 22-14 victory.

A scoreless first quarter featured seven Blast shots, four La RaZa shots and one too many men on the field two-minute penalty to the Blast.

The second quarter started with a Machel Millwood goal to give Baltimore a 2-0 lead but La RaZa answered at 6:22 to tie it up with a goal from Alejandro Morales. La RaZa's Byron Alvarez scored at 10:28 to give Monterrey a 4-2 lead.

Just 54 seconds into the third quarter Millwood scored his second of the night to tie the game at 4-4 but Monterrey regained a 6-4 lead at 4:33 on a goal from Carlos Farias.

The fourth quarter started with simultaneous pusing penalties to Billy Nelson and Alejandro Morales at 5:46 followed by an elbowing penalty to Machel Millwood at 7:48.  Monterrey's goal by Morales, his second of the night, put La RaZa on top 8-4. Max Ferdinand scored for the Blast at 11:37 to make it 8-6 and Giuliano Celenza tied the game at 8-8 to force overtime. 

Quiroz scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of overtime to advance La RaZa to the Championship Game against the Wave.
