03/07/2009 12:14 PM - The Baltimore Blast defeated the Philadelphia KiXX, 12-2, Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena to lock up the regular season title and clinch home field advantage in the 2009 NISL Championship match. Led by Machel Millwod, the Blast jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and held the KiXX scoreless for the final 27 minutes of the game. Former Blast players Billy Ronson and Richard Chinapoo were inducted into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame at halftime of the game.
Giuliano Celenza and Millwood scored 31 seconds apart in the first quarter to give Baltimore an early 4-0 lead over the KiXX.
After a scoreless second quarter, Ryan Heins scored to cut the Blast lead to 4-2 but Millwood and Celenza each scored their second goals of the game to increase the Blast lead to 8-2 heading into the final quarter of play.
Robbie Aristodemo and Mike Lookingland scored in the fourth quarter to seal the victory and guarantee the Blast a bye into the Championship. Sagu, the league-leading goalkeeper, stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the game.
The Blast and KiXX will play again, on March 14th in Philadelphia before the Blast returns to Baltimore to host the Massachusetts Twisters on the 21st.
