BLAST FALL IN GAME ONE OF CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Defeated by Sonora 4-2
For the 7th consecutive season and the 9th time out of the last 10 years the Baltimore Blast found themselves in the Championship Series which kicked off in Baltimore on Friday night. The Blast hosted Soles de Sonora in a rematch of the 2016 Championship Series and in front of 6,701 fans at Royal Farms Arena the Blast were defeated in game one 4-1.
In the first quarter both teams focused on possession and defensive play. Only one goal was recorded in the quarter when Enrique Canez found the back of the net for Sonora off an assist from Hiram Ruiz. At the end of the first Sonora led 1-0.
No goals were recorded in the second quarter as the Blast outshot Sonora 7-6 but were unable to find the back of the net. At the half Sonora led 1-0.
It took only :31 seconds into the second half for the Blast offense to strike. Andrew Hoxie tied the game with his 5th goal of the postseason assisted by Tony Donatelli. The next three goals of the quarter would belong to Sonora. At the 5:03 mark Daniel Lopez recorded a goal assisted by Damian Garcia. Erick Rosas would also find the back of the net in the third quarter of an assist from Daniel Lopez and at the 13:18 mark Hiram Ruiz extended the Sonora lead to 3 with a goal assisted by Enrique Canez. Entering the final quarter the Blast trailed 4-1.
At the 4:11 mark in the final quarter Adriano Dos Santos scored for the Blast off an assist from Jonatas Melo to pull within 2. The Blast comeback would come up short and at the final buzzer Soles defeated the Blast 4-2.
The Blast were led by Andrew Hoxie and Adriano Dos Santos who recorded the two Blast goals. Goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 14 saves in the game.
The Blast travel to Hermosillo, Mexico for game 2 and the potential mini game on Sunday, April 9th. Kickoff is at 9:05 p.m. EST and the game can be viewed on MASLTv via YouTube.
